Gul Flowers are the beginning of a study based on textile design details from Turkman rugs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their designs are extremely abstracted flower forms and like in many Oriental rugs, can be viewed as a bloom in someone's beloved garden.
Their region of origin, Turkmenistan, is located in the middle of the Eastern and Western worlds.  Influences from crossed cultures over many centuries, whether by invading armies, commercial traders, despot rulers or the intuitive sense of a displaced nomad weaver have contributed to each guls’ formation.  They contain so many sources over so long a time period they are considered among the most diverse designs in existence today.
