Four Cross #2, oil, beewax, ground glass, gold leaf on linen, 24" x 24"
|
Four Cross is based on a textile design used as a repeat motif
in borders of Anatolian, Persian and Turkman tribal carpets.
The origin and meaning of this form is unknown but possibly derived from the Chinese calligraphy character representing ‘”double joy”.
I have refined the symbol’s form and proportions, highlighted it using 23k gold leaf on linen, then layered pigments mixed with ground glass, bees wax and linseed oil to produce a balance
of color and design. |
